Please welcome back Gene Kim and Jeff Gallimore. Hi. Yeah. Good morning. Good morning, good morning.
Hey — so by show of applause, how was the ultimate Gen AI learning day yesterday? And how were the activities yesterday and the party and the lightning talks?
Yeah, so on the day yesterday — I mean, I had so much fun. I thought it was just so interesting. But for me, the startling comment was something that John Willis said. He said, to him, it felt like the 2009 Velocity Conference — where John Allspaw and Paul Hammond gave this outrageous presentation describing how they're doing 10 deploys a day, every day, at Flickr. So John was actually there for that, and by his personal account, people were fainting in the aisles. They were so shocked, because the notion of 10 deploys a day was so preposterous — it seemed irresponsible, maybe even immoral. And so I think historians will point to that presentation as really one of the kickoff moments for what we now call DevOps. And so for John to say that it felt like that was just super, super interesting to me. So yesterday was fantastic. Day one was fantastic. And I also had just an outrageous amount of fun meeting so many of you last night.
So on day one, we had Lauren Woods, CIO of Southwest Airlines, wrap up the day, where she shared her reflections and gave us advice to the community. Yesterday, Dr. Andre Martin, a career chief learning officer, did the same thing, sharing his reflection, advice, and some very aspirational advice about the role of technology leaders in our organizations. And so today, serving that role — for reasons that will become clear, I can think of no better person, because we have a very nautical theme this morning — this person is Admiral John Richardson. He served as the 31st Chief of Naval Operations that was comprehensively responsible for the 600,000 sailors and civilians in the US Navy. Before that, he was in charge of Naval Reactors, an organization comprehensively responsible for the design, research, development, safety, and retirement of all nuclear reactors in the seagoing fleet.
And so after retiring from the US Navy, he serves on numerous corporate boards including Boeing, the world's largest aerospace company; Constellation, the largest supplier of carbon-free energy; and many more. So he's been a mentor of mine for years, and I know that he'll share some equally fabulous insights for us at the end of the day. So we have a phenomenal day ahead. So with that, Jeff, why don't you come out and tell us how we're gonna get you through the day.
Outstanding.
Jeff Gallimore
All right. Good morning, everybody. All right. We are on day three. Who went to the Lightning Talks and the book signings last night? Yeah, those Lightning Talks are great — they're entertaining, they're educational. Thanks to Google, Lucid, and Robert Half for making those possible.
Now we are on day three, the final day of the summit. And I wanted to do a check-in with how y'all are feeling. So you might be super excited and pumped about all of this summit experience that you've had over the last two days. You might be feeling a sense of belonging — that you found your fellow travelers. You might be pondering all the things that you've learned and seen and heard, and what you're gonna do with them. You might be realizing that change is really hard and you've got a long road ahead of you. You also might be feeling a sense of resolve, that you can do this and you can make that change. And after two very full days of programming, you might be feeling totally wiped out. And if you're like me, you may be feeling all of these all at the same time — which is the sign of a great conference.
So however you're feeling, strap in. We have another great day for you in store at the summit.
We wanna hear the stories that you've had from your experience the last two days — the people you've met, the insights and the ideas you've had, the actions you're deciding to take. Share that with us please, in the summit-stories channel in Slack.
And speaking of sharing — you've attended a lot of sessions, a lot of talks, over the last two days. We would love to get your feedback on those talks. It's so helpful to Gene and the programming committee and the speakers. Sharing is caring, and feedback is a gift.
Thank you to IT Revolution for creating this opportunity to get this amazing community together. Thank you to all of our sponsors, our premier sponsor Sonatype, and all of our platinum, gold, silver, and bronze sponsors. Thank you to all of them for being such an important part of this summit community and our experience over the last couple of days.
Now, that's all the time we have for announcements, because we have a lot of amazing programming to get to. Check out the summit-info channel in Slack — that's all the things that you need to know. Have a great day.
