Darbie Vos

Hi everybody. Welcome to our Lightning Talks. My name is Darbie Vos, and I am here from Lucid Software. I am a Product Marketing Manager, and I am so excited to be here today to talk with you about how you can avoid a little bit of IT chaos by leveraging the Lucid Suite.

So when I say that Lucid has the best visual collaboration tools available, you might think of one of our excellent diagramming videos — just like this one.

[Video — Lucid badger sketch: "This is the Badger, and there are many types. There's the European Panda, the American Rage Raccoon, the Asian Ink Weasel, and the African Murder Skunk. Now let's compare this one. Looks like a charming bloke who'd invite you to tea. This one looks like it'd stab you in a back alley. This one's just weird, and this one's a terror to the entire animal kingdom. Like, it eats cobras, it fights off leopards, and it scares off safari doggos. You're probably thinking, well, that's good — 'honey badger don't care.' Just wait — we're getting there. There've been some popular badgers, like Repetitive Badger Badger, Breaking Badger, of course there's the one by Randall — 'Honey Badger Don't Care,' there it is — and finally, there's Incredible Fast Badger. Here's some badger lingo: a group is called a 'cete,' a home is called a 'sett,' and if a badger sits, it's just called a 'sin.' Visualize your badgers — and anything else — with Lucidchart, made by Lucid."]

We love showing off our diagramming capabilities in this way. Lucid is so much more than lines and boxes on a canvas. We provide you with the tools to create a living blueprint of your business that you and your teams can take action on.

Now that you've either become familiar — or refreshed your memory on — who Lucid is, I'm going to dive into two IT-specific scenarios and how Lucid could have helped avoid a little bit of chaos. While we hope you haven't experienced these scenarios, we do hope that you will resonate with some of them as you reflect on your own career.

So picture this: there is a worker at an IT help desk. A woman calls in and says, "You know, my browsers just aren't working." He asks the classic, "Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again?" That unfortunately didn't work. So next he says, "Okay, close all of the windows on your browser."

A minute later, she comes back on and says, "Yes — all the windows in my house are closed. What's next?"

Unfortunately, we clearly didn't mean this. We meant to close all of the browser tabs on the window. Leveraging Lucidchart, you could have had a clearly documented process that would have shown — step by step, with visuals — what you meant along the way, which helps to alleviate clarity issues and keep your teams moving forward as quickly as possible without even needing to contact IT.

Next, we have a user call in from a shop. They said, "My computer won't turn on." They show up, and sure enough, the thing won't turn on. Turns out the fan was running too loudly, so the user — trying to be a proactive problem solver — decided, "I'm gonna spray half a can of WD-40 into my computer."

Ouch. That computer is beyond dead. Leveraging Lucidchart, having a clearly documented process, you could see all of the different options that this user could take over spraying WD-40 into a computer. My personal favorite is to close some of the tabs you've had open for almost a year that you hardly ever reference, and then allowing your computer to cool down.

Leveraging Lucidchart, we open pathways for you and your teams to clearly document processes and to help your teams move faster and avoid chaos.

Thank you all so much. If you haven't visited Lucid yet, we are participating in the Passport program. We do have a Yeti cooler up for grabs — be sure to stop by. This is exactly where we're located. Thank you all so much. Have a wonderful night. I'm going to pass it off to Jason and Topo.
