[00:00:07.500] The topic is about the DevOps Mario developer game challenge with GRC. Any names, events, business, or process that I talk about here are purely coincidental. Okay, so don't quote me on this.
[00:00:21.900] Right now, every developer is like Mario. We are excited, and this is me. My name is BMK. I work for a company called SECTION6, and we help customers build mission-critical software for their mission-critical systems.
[00:00:36.500] Now, developers are excited to solve problems, and we are excited because we want to work towards the outcome that our business wants, and we want to really help our customers.
[00:00:48.300] But motivated engineers keep going. We have been shaped, mentored, groomed, helped, and trained by our seniors, the senior software engineers. They helped us as juniors to grow, and we dream about working on full-stack, modern, cloud-native software. And that's us, and this is what actually motivates us to keep going.
[00:01:09.500] Now security and risk often follow you, okay? And follow you for what? You fill documents, and you fill templates, and you tick some boxes. Instead of working full-time in the IDE, now you start working on Excel sheets.
[00:01:30.400] Now, sometimes you get to meet your new friends. Imagine who it is as your response is going up. Here we go: you meet the enterprise architects, and they teach you about IT governance, security controls, policies, and everything, and whatnot. Now your cognitive load shoots up. Now you need to go and fix all this, and you need to start filling more things that have nothing to do with code. What? Excel sheets. Okay.
[00:02:00.900] Now, what is this one all about? This is like our governance and compliance teams. They start throwing all the spanners. Now you need to tick more boxes, talk to more people, and fill more sheets. Okay. Now what do I do?
[00:02:18.200] Every enterprise organization is like this if developers care about flow. Imagine this. Anybody here? Make some noise.
[00:02:29.300] And this is the true state of the enterprise IT DevOps. And our CIO puts something on the board and says that we are a true continuous delivery organization. There we go. And most of us can listen with this. And finally, once you finish your quest, then you get a chance to apply to production. Okay?
[00:02:56.900] And then your new quest starts. What is that? For every new system that you build, every new software that you build, now you need to follow again the same process. Keep going.
[00:03:10.100] Here, we got some help. Our IT Rev folks and IT Revolution have published so many forum papers and books, including the latest one, Investments Unlimited. It's for your rescue. You read it. Give it to your auditing friends. Give it to your governance friends. And one important one: please give it to your enterprise architects. They need to read about this.
[00:03:31.700] And with that, my name is BMK. DevOps Mario game challenge with governance, risk, and compliance. Thank you, folks.
